It hasn't been one year since Sunil Gavaskar's famous “stupid, stupid, stupid” comment on Rishabh Pant's unorthodox approach in Australia and Dale Steyn, the Proteas great, has taken to his official X handle to share his two cents on the dismissal of the Indian skipper in the high-stakes IND vs SA second Test match at Guwahati.

Steyn reacts to Pant's error

Rishabh Pant hasn’t been at his best in the South Africa Test series and after a stumbly patch of runs (2 runs) in the first innings, Pant, the skipper, threw away his wicket and also wasted a review in the process, to which Dale Steyn commented, "That is just a brainfade shot".

Rishabh Pant throws away his wicket

Speaking of the shot, in the second ball of the 38th over, Marco Jansen bowled a pretty hit-the-deck hard ball on the off-stump line, which was a bit short of a good length. Rishabh Pant, reacting to the ball, stepped outside the crease as he swung his bat wildly across the line.

The ball caught the nick of the bat and the outside edge carried straight to Kyle Verreynne behind the stumps.

Rishabh Pant didn't waste any time and signalled the T for review, which clearly showed a huge spike on the UltraEdge, as Pant also burnt the review for India.

Pant wastes India's opportunity

Pant only managed 7 runs from 8 deliveries, which was indeed a poor decision from the skipper. Pant, who came in at number 5 after Sai Sudarshan's wicket at 96 for 3, was tasked to attain the impossible as India currently trails 350 runs behind South Africa.

With three wickets gone, Pant was poised to set and settle down at the crease. However, his shot selection, which has been a point of discussion and headlines for many years, has cost a crucial wicket for India, as the hosts currently stand at 137 for 7 at the end of 49 overs.
