The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the entire schedule for next year’s 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur as well as 2024 T20 World Cup-winning skipper Rohit Sharma attended a conference along with several BCCI and ICC bigwigs for the schedule unveiling.
During the ceremony, Suryakumar Yadav was asked if there was an opponent his team would like to face upon reaching the final, to which the senior cricketer confidently responded: Australia at Ahmedabad.
Suryakumar Yadav wants 2023 World Cup revenge
While speaking on JioHotstar, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was asked if there was a specific team India would like to face in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next year. The senior cricketer picked Australia as his opponents, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad no less.
For the unversed, India and Australia also crossed paths in the final of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup back in November 2023, at the same Ahmedabad-based venue. Despite being a heavy contender to lift the coveted silverware, the Indian team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, got humbled on the big day in front of a capacity crowd by Pat Cummins and co.
Suryakumar Yadav was one of the members of India’s playing XI of that final, and the memory still seems to linger, driving his desire to script a different ending on the very same stage three-and-a-half months from now.
Under his leadership, Team India also recently secured a comprehensive 2-1 series win against Australia away from home earlier this month.
As of now, Suryakumar Yadav and the rest of his T20I troops are gearing up to face South Africa at home from December 9 onwards for a five-match series.
