The ongoing Asia Cup 2023 was supposed to highlight India's preparedness for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. On the flip side, the two matches so far have exposed India's lack of preparedness across all three departments.

Against Pakistan, India's batting were found wanting, while last evening against Nepal, the bowling and fielding came under heavy scrutiny.

Team India were guilty of dropping as many as three catches in the first few overs itself, which included players like Shreyas Iyer, and Virat Kohli dropping sitters. Former India coach Ravi Shastri, who focused on improving India's fielding standards during his tenure, did not hold back from lashing out at poor showing against Nepal.

Speaking to Star Sports on-air, Shastri termed India's fielding efforts as sloppy and provided no excuse for the concerned players.

Here's what Shastri said

“Sloppy from India, really! This is straightforward. Ample time. No excuse though from the keeper’s point of view. This is as straightforward as it can get."

India's ground fielding also suffered with several overthrows and misfields enabling Nepal to reach 230 runs, despite being 144 for 6.  Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 147 runs for the first wicket, as India chased down their revised target (145) with ease.

Skipper Sharma also expressed his disappointment over India's poor showing in the field, while speaking in the post-match ceremony. Having qualified for Super Fours, India will face Pakistan on September 10.
