Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill found himself at the centre of a controversial incident when he argued with the on-field umpire after being adjudged run-out in the IPL 2025 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) last night. After the game concluded, Gill revealed what exactly led him to the heated exchange in the high-stakes clash.
Shubman Gill Discloses The Reason Behind Altercation With Umpire
The incident occurred during the 13th over of GT's innings when Gill had already formed a scintillating stand with Jos Buttler following B Sai Sudharsan's dismissal. After Buttler nudged a delivery from Zeeshan Ansari on the leg side, Gill started running in pursuit of a quick single.
However, Harshal Patel picked the ball up and threw it straight towards the striker's end, and the third umpire declared Shubman Gill out, concluding the ball had hit the stumps just in time. The GT skipper was left stunned and eventually argued with the on-field umpires.
In the post-match presentation, Gill reckoned that sometimes sportspersons get a little bit carried away due to the emotions involved in the match. Thus, as he put it, his argument with the officials was backed more by emotions than logic.
"There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved. As you give your 110 percent, there are bound to be some emotions," Gill was quoted as saying by the Times Of India.
GT Get One Step Close To IPL 2025 Playoffs
Riding on the batting masterclass by their top three, GT posted a huge total of 224 runs on the board. In response, SRH finished their innings on 186 for six, losing the high-scoring affair convincingly by 38 runs.
Thus, the Titans registered their seventh win of the season, getting one step closer to the playoffs. SRH, on the other hand, recorded their seventh defeat, finding themselves on the verge of a group-stage elimination from the tournament.
