Shubman Gill, India’s vice-captain for the upcoming ODI series against England reflected on the added responsibility. He feels privileged to be a part of the think tank and understand how different mindsets come together to formulate a workable strategy.

India bamboozled England in the five-game T20I series with a 4-1 victory. The bilateral tour will now move onto the 3-game ODI series, starting from February 5.

Meanwhile, the ODI series is crucial for the Champions Trophy standpoint and hence India will field a strong side led by Rohit Sharma. Interestingly, Shubman Gill has been appointed his deputy in the ODI format, marking an interesting switch ahead of the ICC tournament.

Shubman Gill to embrace vice-captaincy

Gill, who has been struggling with form recently in the white-ball format, sees the vice-captain as an added responsibility that will look to fulfil with utmost honesty and sincerity.

In the pre-game press conference held at Nagpur, Gill said:

“Yes, I have been given added responsibility and I take it as a challenge to lead with my performance first and then on the field. If Rohit bhai needs my opinion, it's my responsibility to convey my thoughts.”

Shubman Gill previously led the Indian cricket team on the Zimbabwe tour and is envisioned as Rohit Sharma’s successor in the ODI format going forward. However, the batter needs to perform to prove himself capable of taking the big responsibility.

Jasprit Bumrah excluded from India’s ODI squad vs England

India announced their final ODI squad for the upcoming series against England and replaced Jasprit Bumrah with a spin option, Varun Chakravarthy. Bumrah, who remains a part of India’s Champions Trophy squad, is sidelined with back injury and has been rested given the severity of the injury. His snub is giving chills to the Indian fans as his absence could lead to severe repercussions in Champions Trophy.
