Now, the caravan shifts towards the ODIs as the two teams will fight it out before the Champions Trophy commences. All eyes will be on the big Indian stars who will be playing ODIs after a while.
It was in July 2024 when India last played an ODI match, and since then, the focus has been on red-ball cricket. The 3-match series holds an utmost importance for the out of form Rohit Sharma, who is on the verge of surpassing the great Sachin Tendulkar in an illustrious record.
Rohit set to surpass Tendulkar
The India captain has been on a rough patch since the T20 World Cup in 2024. He looked out of touch in Tests against New Zealand and Australia, however, ODIs is his best format and the captain of the team has a great chance to break Tendulkar's ODI record.
Rohit is only 134 runs away from reaching the 11,000 ODI runs tally. If he reaches the feat in the next 19 innings, Rohit will become the second quickest player to achieve this record and will only trail his teammate, Virat Kohli in that feat, who is the fastest to get to the 11,000 runs tally.
Meanwhile, Rohit also needs two ODI tons in the 3-game series to become the third Indian to have 50 or more centuries in International cricket. Sachin Tendulkar has 100 centuries to his name, while Kohli has 81 against his name.
The first ODI of the series will take place on February 6 and will be played in Nagpur as India look to get the much needed practice ahead of Champions Trophy.
