On Thursday, India will cross swords with Australia in the highly anticipated semifinal of the ongoing Women's World Cup edition. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India are riding high on confidence following a clinical win over New Zealand Women. Meanwhile, Australia remained undefeated in the group stage and would like to sustain their purple patch in the tournament. However, as two formidable sides gear up for the clash, the weather at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai is likely to play spoilsport.

According to AccuWeather, the weather at DY Patil Sports Academy might worsen on Thursday morning. Although the conditions will be warm and humid, the skies in Navi Mumbai will be covered with dark clouds, with the chances of rain reading as high as 25 per cent.

Although the conditions are expected to improve in the afternoon, the unpredictable nature of Navi Mumbai's weather has certainly put the India vs Australia Women's World Cup semifinal in jeopardy.

What if IND-W vs AUS-W is abandoned due to rain?

For the unversed, rain and inclement weather have already forced the abandonment of six matches in the Women's World Cup. In fact, India Women's last group-stage match against Bangladesh got washed out at DY Patil Sports Academy due to a relentless spell of rain.

However, we have a reserve day for the semifinal. So, if rain interrupts the game on Thursday, the India vs Australia match will resume on the reserve day from where it left off.

That said, if the inclement weather conditions in Navi Mumbai result in the complete abandonment of the fixture on the reserve day, India Women will crash out and Australia Women will proceed to the final, having finished higher in the group-stage standings.
