In the grand theatre of cricket rivalries, nothing hits harder than India vs Australia, the clash that stops hearts. From Sachin vs Lee to Kohli vs Starc, the faces have changed, but the fire burns brighter than ever.

But if there is any thought in your mind of thinking Women’s cricket must not face the hit, you need to rethink. From Australia crushing India’s dreams to the Women in Blue scripting stunning turnarounds, this battle has delivered heartbreaks, heroics, and unforgettable moments.

At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Australia Women shattered India’s golden dream, leaving millions heartbroken. Just when India seemed a heartbeat away from glory, Jess Jonassen stepped in and flipped the script with her sheer brilliance. Let’s relive her heroics.

India’s golden dream meets Australia’s grit

Every athlete dreams of wearing their nation’s colours, but for cricketing countries, the 2022 Commonwealth Games turned that dream into something even grander. But the drama picked up in the final clash when the India Women locked horns with Australia while eyeing the highly anticipated gold medal.

While batting first, Australia Women faced a massive blow as Renuka Singh removed Alyssa Healy early in just seven runs. Striking back, Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning’s 74-run partnership flipped the script. Even Australia unleashed its unreal grit, Indian bowlers showcased their domination.

Renuka Singh and Sneh Rana secured two wickets each, and the other bowlers kept the domination alive. Yet, in the middle of the storm, Beth Mooney stood tall. Calm under fire, she crafted a gritty half-century, her 61-run masterclass guiding Australia Women to a fighting total of 161.

Jess Jonassen holds her nerve in a thrilling final over finish

The final dream was so close, Team India stepped into the second innings, eyes full of dreams, but the Aussie women turned the side. As Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana came to open the innings, Ashleigh Gardner and Darcie Brown removed them in quick succession. After that, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues tried to shift the momentum with a 96 run partnership.

But the drama picked in the last over, India Women were 11 runs away from the golden dream, but those 11 runs proved to be heartbreaking for the Women in Blue. Coming to bowl that over, Jess Jonassen kept her death domination alive. After Meghna Singh fell for a heartbreaking run out, more Aussie domination was waiting for them.

After that, India needed 10 run with one wicket in hand, and Jonassen struck again as she sent Yastika Bhatia back. That dismissal sealed India’s fate. Their chase ended heartbreakingly at 152, as Australia clinched gold and the Women in Blue were left holding silver, so close, yet just out of reach. Jonassen’s last over brilliance stole the show.

Over the years, the India–Australia rivalry has been pure theatre, fierce, emotional, and unforgettable. Both sides have tasted glory and heartbreak, yet every time they meet, sparks fly and stories are rewritten.

Now, the stage is set once again. As Australia Women and India Women gear up for their semifinal clash in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, the cricket world braces for another chapter of high-voltage drama and unrelenting passion.
