Indian cricket is entering a brand-new era but not everyone is ready to let go of the old guard. After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli called time on their Test careers, emotions are running high across the cricketing world.

Yograj Singh Opens Up On Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Retiring Too Soon

And former India cricketer Yograj Singh, never one to mince words, has now joined the chorus, delivering a heartfelt, no-holds-barred take on what he feels is a premature farewell from two legends.

Speaking to ANI, Yograj called Virat Kohli’s retirement a big blow, saying,

“Virat is a big player, so it will obviously be a loss.”

He even drew parallels with the last time India lost multiple seniors around the same time post-2011, when the team was still riding high off a World Cup win.

“When many players were either removed, retired, or coerced into retirement in 2011, the team fell apart and has still not stood back up,” he recalled.

The message was loud and clear, history may just be repeating itself and India could pay the price again.

Yograj didn’t hold back when it came to questioning the timing of Kohli and Rohit’s retirement.

“I feel a lot of cricket is still left in Virat and Rohit,” he said, echoing what millions of fans have been feeling since the bombshell announcements dropped.

For Yograj, greats like them don’t retire just because of a dip in form or age.

"Everyone’s time comes," he admitted, but hinted that neither of them had reached that point yet.

Yuvraj Singh’s Retirement Wasn’t The Right Move Either

The emotion turned personal as Yograj reflected on his son Yuvraj Singh’s decision to retire.

“I told Yuvi it was not the right move,” he said. “One should walk away from the field when one can no longer walk.”

Yograj also raised a red flag about India relying too heavily on youngsters.

“If you form a team full of youngsters, it will always fall apart,” he warned.

He speculated that Kohli might feel he has nothing left to achieve, but stressed that the value of senior players goes way beyond stats.

Rohit Needed A Push

One of the most emotional parts of the interview came when Yograj spoke about Rohit Sharma.

“I think Rohit needed just one person to motivate him daily, for example, to go for a run at 5 AM,” he said.

Calling Rohit and Virender Sehwag players who retired too early, Yograj dropped a line that perfectly sums up his mood:

“The greatest players should play till 50 years of age… I am sad about their retirement as no one is left to motivate the youngsters now.”

Yograj’s words may sound harsh to some, but they are based on a simple emotion: love for the game and those who gave it their all. Because legends like Kohli and Rohit… they don’t just retire. They leave a void. And this one feels like it won’t be filled anytime soon.
