A billion hearts were shattered on July 14 after India suffered a narrow 22-run defeat against England at Lord's to trail 1-2 in the ongoing five-match Test series. The match was poised for the Shubman Gill-led side to win, but the top-order failed at the wrong time, reducing India to just 82/7.
While the defeat knocked on the door, Ravindra Jadeja stood his ground and stitched a crucial partnership to nearly snatch the win out of the jaws of defeat. India inched closer, but Mohammed Siraj fell prey to Shoaib Bashir, followed by inconsolable reactions. It was a heartbreak, but the stars earned fans and cricket pundits' respect for their valiant effort.
Ashwin Slams Jadeja For Not Taking Risks
In the latest events, R Ashwin also heaped praise on Jadeja, but suggested that the southpaw could have been a bit more attacking.
"I was messaging a big cricketer throughout the match. I won't take his name, but both of us were discussing the match. Both of us felt that Jadeja should have probably taken a little more risk, but not a lot. The way he played, hats off! Jaddu showed an entire generation of Gen Bold that you can play with patience and skin the Test game," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
He could have picked one moment with Siraj and asked him to go after Bashir because Siraj can hit a clean ball. He can hit a spinner to the leg side with the slope," Ashwin added..
Sunil Gavaskar Slams Ravindra Jadeja
Not just R Ashwin, but India legend Sunil Gavaskar criticised Jadeja and stated that Jadeja should have taken a chance or so in between to keep the momentum going.
A partnership of 60-70 would have made a difference. India never got that. You could say that Jadeja could have taken the odd chance and not necessarily the aerial route when Joe Root and Shoaib Bashir was bowling. But full marks to him (Jadeja)," Gavaskar said speaking to Sony Sports.
Despite the criticism, Sunny G was full of praise for the India star all-rounder and hailed his valiant effort.
