In a significant development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named Liam Dawson as Shoaib Bashir's replacement for the last two Tests against England. The Three Lions took to social media to announce adding a left-arm spinner to the squad, who is making a return after eight years.

Notably, there is a eight-day gap between the next Test and England and India will lock horns for the fourth Test on July 23 at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.

Liam Dawson Replaces Shoaib Bashir

Notably, Bashir, who played a key role in helping England register a historic win at Lord's, has been ruled out of the series following a little finger injury in the first innings in the recently concluded match.

"Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire,"  remarked England Men's National Selector, Luke Wright on Dawson's return to Test cricket.

The 35-year-old made his England debut in 2016 and was an active part of Three Lions in Test cricket till 2017 when he played his last against South Africa in July. However, Dawson continues to be England's key member in the shortest format of the match with his latest appearance coming in June 2025 against West Indies.
