The Indian Women's team has started their ICC ODI Women's World Cup 2025 campaign with two back-to-back wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While the batting department appears unstable, the bowlers have performed exceptionally well. India won both matches by a considerable margin, thanks to the excellent bowling performances by Deepti Sharma and Kranti Goud.

Speaking about Deepti, Australia's former captain Meg Lanning had some observations about the all-rounder after the completion of two matches. Lanning went on to praise Deepti for using her experience and performing brilliantly in the World Cup.

Meg Lanning heaps praises on Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma scored 53 off 53 balls and claimed three wickets against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the World Cup. Her all-around performance made a significant contribution to India's victory. Moreover, she was also awarded the Player of the Match trophy. Meg Lanning mentioned having Deepti in the middle order, which has provided an extra batting option for the team. Moreover, Lanning praised Deepti for handling the bowling department really well.

"You know the good thing with Deepti is she can come in if you've lost a few wickets and sort of settle things down and right the ship but if she needs to come in and dominate and be a bit more aggressive, you can also do that. So that's a really good thing to have in the middle order," said Meg Lanning to the ICC.

"Then with the ball she's very clever. You know just subtle changes here and there are very effective and she knows what works so to start off the tournament really well will give her a lot of belief, and it'll make some other sides very nervous, I think, to have her playing so well, and especially because they've got so many other match winners too," she added.

India Women to clash against South Africa Women on Oct 9

The Indian Women's team is all set to play against the South African Women's team on October 9. To maintain the winning streak in the tournament, India will be aiming to win against South Africa. Although the tournament has just begun, the level of competition has intensified.

The home team has yet to face some of the more formidable teams in the future, and maintaining its winning streak will give it more confidence to play against teams like Australia, England, and New Zealand.
