Shashank Singh drilled a whirlwind 61* off 29 balls against Gujarat Titans in match number 17 of the IPL 2024 season. His run-chase masterclass helped Punjab Kings mow down Titans’ 199-run total at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Catapulting himself to unprecedented stardom with his match-winning effort, Shashank Singh soon became the talk of the cricketing town, with a legion of IPL and T20 enthusiasts celebrating his arrival to the big stage.

Punjab Kings co-owner and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta also hailed the star batter as the two caught up at the Ahmedabad venue after the high-scoring thriller.

A day after Punjab Kings’ remarkable win over Gujarat Titans, team co-owner Preity Zinta took to her social media accounts and shared a selfie with breakout star Shashank Singh. Apart from praising the batter for his match-winning efforts at Ahmedabad, she also clarified the controversy surrounding Shashank’s auction confusion, and hailed the cricketer’s “incredible spirit and positive attitude”. She wrote:

“Today seems like the perfect day to finally talk about things that were said in the past about us at the auction. A lot of people in similar situations would have lost confidence, buckled under pressure or become de-motivated ……. but not Shashank! He is not like a lot of people. He is truly special. Not just because of his skill as a player but because of his positive attitude & incredible spirit. 


"He took all the comments, jokes and brick bats so sportingly & never became a victim. He backed himself and showed us what he is made of, and for that I applaud him 👏👏 He has my admiration & my respect. I hope he can be an example to all of you when life takes a different turn & does not play according to script, for it’s not what people think of you that matters, but what You think of Yourself! So never stop believing in yourself like Shashank & I’m sure you will be Man of the match in the game of life 🤩”

In the match, Shashank Singh bashed a career-best 61* off 29 balls after arriving to the crease at 70-4 in the ninth over of the innings while chasing 200. He shared crucial partnerships with Sikandar Raza, Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma before landing the finishing blow in the penultimate ball of the match.

Emboldened by his recent career-best T20 performance, Shashank Singh will now turn up for Punjab Kings in match number 23 of the IPL 2024 season against SRH. The much-awaited contest will be staged in Mullanpur on April 9.
