AB de Villiers unhappy to see Dewald Brevis in CSK colours [Source: @BraveStorm17, @CSKFansArmy/x.com]
Dewald Brevis has been setting the stage on fire with his fearless batting but his IPL team choice has left one South African legend a little heartbroken. In a recent chat with Subhankar Mishra on a podcast, former RCB star AB de Villiers didn't hold back when he shared his thoughts on the rising star and on which IPL team he should have been playing for.
AB de Villiers Regrets Seeing Brevis In CSK Colours
AB de Villiers, who is known for his 360-degree strokeplay and cult following in Bengaluru, admitted that watching Brevis suit up for Chennai Super Kings doesn’t quite sit right.
"From South Africa, I would say Dewald Brevis (who could become the next 360-degree player in the game). Yeah, he has the number 17 on the back. He plays a similar kind of cricket. He is very attacking and still has a lot to learn. He is playing for CSK and not RCB. That is a shame," ABD said in a podcast with Subhankar Mishra.
For fans of RCB, those words sting a little. And for CSK fans? Well, they might just grin and call it a good steal.
Brevis Bringing The Heat Across Formats
The 21-year-old is making waves beyond the IPL too. Brevis recently made his Test debut in Zimbabwe where he scored 84 runs in three innings at an average of 28 and a strike rate close to 99, a rare combo in red-ball cricket.
He also boasts a T20I strike rate near 180, hammering 138 runs from just seven innings. While he is still searching for a big international knock, his intent is crystal clear: no brakes, just boundaries.
IPL 2025 Recap For Baby AB
In the IPL, Dewald Brevis, in just 16 innings, has piled up 455 runs at a strike rate of 153.19, numbers that speak for themselves. Last season, donning the CSK yellow, he scored 225 runs in six innings at a sensational strike rate of 180 with two match-turning fifties in the mix.
His style is fearless, his shots outrageous and his ability to shift gears mid-innings is what makes him a true game-changer. Despite Brevis shining bright, Chennai Super Kings had a horror season in 2025.
For the first time in IPL history, the five-time champs finished rock bottom on the table, something their loyal fan base isn't used to. But as they always do, CSK will look to bounce back in style. With Brevis growing in stature and other young guns in the team, 2026 might just be their comeback story in the making.
