With Asia Cup Unlikely, When Will Jasprit Bumrah Return To Action For India?

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the upcoming Asia Cup. On Friday, he was released from the Indian team after playing three Tests in the five-match series against England. This decision was pre-planned by the selectors to manage his workload and avoid the risk of injury.

In fact, before the England tour began, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had already confirmed that Bumrah would not play more than three Tests in the series.

Now, reports suggest that Bumrah may also sit out the upcoming Asia Cup, a major Asian tournament. If that happens, when will Bumrah return to action for India.

When Will Bumrah Play For India Next?

The Asia Cup, which will be played in the UAE, is set to finish on September 29. Just a few days later, on October 2, India will begin a two-Test series against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, with the second match scheduled in Delhi from October 10 to 14.

Given the tight scheduling, it’s unlikely that Bumrah will be part of both the Asia Cup and the West Indies Tests. The 31-year-old is expected to skip at least one of these to stay fit and fresh. If the team management feels it’s too soon for him to return after the Asia Cup, Bumrah might even miss the West Indies series altogether.

In that case, his next likely appearance could be in the high-stakes Test series against South Africa in November. These matches carry valuable World Test Championship points and are seen as more important in the bigger picture. The first Test in South Africa is scheduled from November 14 to 18, followed by the second from November 22 to 26.

Another option being considered is to keep Bumrah rested through the rest of 2025 until January, when India plays a T20I series against New Zealand. That series will be a key part of India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup.

In short, Bumrah may skip the Asia Cup and possibly even the West Indies series, depending on how the team manages his workload.
