As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy heats up for 2024-25, all eyes will be on the upcoming fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Sam Konstas, a rising star in Australia, could face India's ace pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. And with the series tied, both teams are showing fiery competition, Konstas is preparing for the challenge of a lifetime.
In an interview ahead of the Test, Sam Konstas exuded confidence but revealed he wouldn't overthink the threat of Bumrah and said:
"I won't watch too much [of Bumrah]. I have already seen him a lot. But I am excited to challenge myself and face him. Usually, our analysts do a little feedback on each bowler. I might read that, maybe,” Konstas was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Sam Konstas' Tactics To Deal With Bumrah
Despite Bumrah's reputation as one of the most deadliest bowlers, Konstas further talked about focusing on backing his own skills rather than getting intimidated by the Indian star.
"I'm super confident. Just backing my skills, I have done all the hard work. Just another game, I guess, and trying to keep it simple. As a kid you have always dreamt of the moment, and it is very rare, to get your baggy green. So it's a huge honour if I do get in,” Konstas said.
Konstas, who was picked in place of Nathan McSweeney who failed to make it count in the last three Tests, could make his Test debut in the crucial Boxing Day match. Reflecting on his journey, Konstas added:
"It was all a bit unexpected, but very privileged to get the opportunity. I just had dinner with the family [to celebrate], pretty chilled. It was emotional, Mum was crying ... Everything has happened so fast,” he added.
With his calm confidence and determination, Konstas is ready to face Bumrah and embrace the opportunity to make his mark on one of cricket’s biggest stages when India and Australia meet one another on December 26.
