The Indian players are rolling their sleeves as the Melbourne Tests looms soon. With two Tests left to decide the fate of the contest, every move counts. Rohit Sharma demoted himself to bat at the number 6 position in the previous two matches and has struggled. Before the crucial clash, former selector Chetan Sharma urged the Indian skipper to reclaim the number 3 position to anchor the innings.
Chetan Sharma Backed Rohit For The Opener's Role
Rohit Sharma has had a mixed run in the ongoing year, scoring 607 runs in 13 Tests. In the ongoing Test series against Australia, he struggled to regain his form. Batting at the number 6 position has only added to his woes.
In his new batting position, he managed to score just 19 runs in the previous two matches. His form in the new role has raised serious concerns. As the Melbourne Test looms, former selector, Chetan Sharma urged the Indian captain to return to his natural role as opener.
“I believe Rohit Sharma should open the innings. He is a very good batsman and will help the middle order perform better by putting pressure on the Australian bowlers.” Chetan Sharma said.
Praising The Bowling Lineup
Amidst the batting struggles, the Indian bowlers showcased their consistency in the previous matches. Jasprit Bumrah led the team from the front and players like Mohammed Siraj, Haeshit Rana, Washington SundarAkashdeep followed the path. Their dominating display troubled the opponent batters. The former selector advised the bowling squad to support Bumrah and cooperate to trouble the opponent.
“Our bowlers are doing really well. However, they need to support Bumrah effectively. He cannot take five or six wickets in every match. The second line of bowlers–be it Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, or Nitish Kumar Reddy–must also hunt in pairs. We need to score more runs.” Sharma said
“We're not meeting our expectations with the bat, but it's easier said than done. Our batting has a lot of depth. With two matches left and favourable pitches, I expect us to perform well.” Sharma added.
As the Melbourne Tests looms soon, Team India is gearing up well to make an impact. The upcoming two Test matches will be extremely crucial for Rohit Sharma and Co. to secure their spot in the WTC final. The visitors will try hard to take the lead of the series.
