Australia have made a bold call ahead of the next two Test matches against India. The Pat Cummins led team made a harsh decision by dropping the out of form opener, Nathan McSweeney and has replaced him with the talented Sam Konstas.

The 19-year-old cricketer has carved a name for himself in the domestic circuit and the Australian side has shown immense faith in the youngster as they believe he can deliver the goods against a rampant Indian attack led by Jasprit Bumrah.

Konstas caught the eye balls during the unofficial Test series against India, prior to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He also caught the selectors' attention during the Pink-ball warm-up match against the Indian side ahead of the Adelaide Test, in which he scored a brilliant century.

However, he has a glaring weakness in his armour and during the unofficial Test match against India A, Mukesh Kumar exploited that weakness. Konstas struggles against the incoming deliveries and Mukesh did exactly that. He bowled an in-swinger as the Aussie opener left the ball and it castled his off-stump as the youngster looked shell-shocked.

Konstas' career at a glance

One of the most promising youngsters in the Australian circuit, Konstas has been a revelation for the Australia Under-19 side. He also has done exceptionally well for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League and was eventually called-up to the Australian squad.

McSweeney's poor form helped his cause as Konstas was always the second choice opener, but for some reason, the team management preferred to go in with McSweeney. In 11 first-class matches, the talented batter has racked up 718 runs, at 42.43, including 2 hundreds and three fifties.
