On Monday, November 12, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took over the internet after reports went viral that the BCCI has instructed the duo to feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Notably, India's next ODI assignment is against South Africa, starting from November 30.

The reports mentioned that there is no clarity from Virat Kohli, but the hitman has assured the board that he will be available for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and also expressed interest in playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

However, in the latest events, The Times of India have reported that MCA selector Sanjay Patil has refuted these rumours and stated that the hitman has not communicated anything with the MCA regarding his decision to play domestic cricket.

"I have not received any message from Rohit Sharma yet. But if he plays for Mumbai, it will be a great thing for us. It will be a good thing for the youngsters. I really appreciate this great step by the BCCI, Ajit Agarkar (chief selector) and Gautam Gambhir (India head coach) (of asking India players to turn out for their teams in domestic cricket when available)," the official said.

Rohit Sharma in contention for 2027 ODI World Cup

There has been a lot of chatter around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the last few months as the two veterans are expected to play the 2027 ODI World Cup, but the board is keen to test these players and how match-fit and ready they are, given that they are only active in just one format.

Meanwhile, Rohit silenced his critics during the Australia tour, where the hitman won the player of the series award for his brilliant century and a fifty-plus score. Despite proving his match-fitness, Rohit and Virat will now have to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and an official update on their availability is expected soon.
