Notably, Mitchell Starc, who will be a key star featuring in the Ashes 2025, is playing in the Sheffield Shield and has already breathed fire with the ball. Playing for New South Wales, Starc picked up four wickets and hogged the internet with his performance.

Starc registered the figures of 4/91 in his 18 overs after stumps on Day 1 and looks in fine form, building up to the Ashes. Besides the wickets, Starc replicated his old heroics and turned back the clock as he bowled several toe-crushing yorkers, sending a big warning to England cricketers.

Australia squad takes part in Sheffield games

Every member of Australia's squad, with the exception of Usman Khawaja, will play in Sheffield Shield games at the SCG, WACA and Bellerive Oval this week. The likes of Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland and others have rejoined their Sheffield sides to ultra-prepare for the Ashes.

Only Pat Cummins among the bowlers is not available as he is still recovering from his back injury.

At the same time, England will be playing a three-day intra-squad game at Perth's Lilac Hill, a venue that has never hosted a men's international.
