In a significant development, Rajasthan Royals have already started planning for the future, a one without Sanju Samson. On the sidelines of Samson's potential trade to CSK, there are reports that the Men in Pink have shortlisted two candidates to be the next captain.

Surprisingly, not Riyan Parag, but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel are the two front-runners to succeed Sanju Samson as the next RR captain. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on which star will actually fit RR.

Dhruv vs Jaiswal for captaincy? Who is better?

It is worth noting that RR are taking a bold call by shortlisting Jaiswal and Jurel as their next captaincy option because they have never led any franchise in IPL.

Both Jurel and Jaiswal made their IPL debut with RR and have represented their entire career as players. Further, even in international cricket, both cricketers have never led India in any format. Thus, it is difficult to pick between the two, but this article will shed light on why RR should entrust Jurel with the job over Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Why Dhruv Jurel should be picked ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal?

Captaincy experience in youth cricket

Despite no exposure to leadership at the highest level, Dhruv Jurel has a fair share of leadership skills in his Under-19 days. Notably, Jurel was India's vice-captain during the 2020 U-19 ODI World Cup.

Jurel served as Priyam Garg's deputy and also kept wickets. Further, during that tournament, India went on to end the World Cup as runners-up, raising its stock in the leadership role.

Interestingly, Yashasvi Jaiswal was also part of the same pool and was the highest scorer with 400 runs in six innings. Meanwhile, Jurel too had done well and amassed 89 runs in three innings, which featured a fifty-plus score.

It was not the end of Jurel's captaincy experience as he also led India U-19 during the 2019 Asia Cup, and also led the team to victory. However, Jurel didn't have a great run with the bat as he scored just 55 runs in four innings, averaging 11.53.

Notably, during the recent Australia A tour of India, Dhruv Jurel was named Shreyas Iyer's deputy. Thus, it is fair to conclude that Jurel has been more involved in the leadership talks and also shared crucial inputs with experienced leaders in recent times, which actually makes him a better option than Yashasvi Jaiswal for the leadership role.

To not hamper with Jaiswal's aggressive intent

Jaiswal's USP is to play aggressive brand of cricket and the franchise might not want to burden him with the role of a captain. The worst thing that can happen to RR is see Jaiswal lose his midas touch with the bat. Instead, it is better to have Dhruv Jurel lead the team, while Jaiswal continue with his aggressive brand of cricket and just focus on his batting and not think about the team struggle.

The southpaw continues to be RR's best batter and the franchise cannot risk to change that. The franchise is already in a transition phase and losing Jaiswal's form would turn into a catastrophic situation for the one-time winners.
