With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shifted its focus on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is just six months away.

The ongoing T20I series against Australia sees several veteran players being rested including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with the duo's place in India's T20I scheme of things uncertain.

Having last played in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Sharma and Kohli have mainly focused on playing Test and ODIs, which has further given an indication of the duo's disinterest in the format.

However, former India bowler Ashish Nehra believes that the duo are good enough to play T20Is for India, given their form in the World Cup 2023.

Speaking to JioCinema, the Gujarat Titans' coach that selectors will be tempted to play both unless they mutually decide to take a rest or retire Sharma and Kohli can play.

Here's what Nehra said

"Virat Kohli is scoring 800 runs, 1000 runs in a calendar year. The way Rohit Sharma is batting, any selector will be tempted. Although they might have a discussion about whether or not Kohli and Rohit want to play the format 'Okay I might not play, I might rest'. Unless they announce their retirement from the format in some time, I hope that's not the case. Both Rohit and Virat are good enough to play any format as long as they are scoring runs and having fun."

Interestingly, Kohli and Sharma are India's top two run-getters in T20Is.
