Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently came into the spotlight for his remarks on Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav following India’s 3-0 sweep against Sri Lanka in the T20I series. 

The pivotal moment came during the third T20I match when India posted a modest total, leaving Sri Lanka needing nine runs from the last two overs.

In a strategic move, Suryakumar brought in Rinku Singh for the 19th over. This decision proved critical as Rinku conceded only three runs and took two vital wickets, breaking the partnership by dismissing the well-set Kusal Perera and later removing Ramesh Mendis. 

With Sri Lanka's score at 132/6, Suryakumar himself decided to bowl the final over, despite having the option of Mohammad Siraj or Khaleel Ahmed, who each had an over left. Surya’s gamble paid off, as he claimed two wickets and restricted Sri Lanka, leading to a tie.

In the Super Over, Sri Lanka managed just two runs, and Suryakumar sealed the series with a boundary off the first ball, completing India’s 3-0 whitewash. 

Kaif’s tweet on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted Suryakumar’s leadership: "Bhai Rohit Sharma ka chela hai Surya.. 19th over Rinku se, 20th over khud SKY and won the game. 

What else one needs to be a great leader?" This remark praised Suryakumar’s bold decisions and effective leadership.

Following the T20I series, India are set to face Sri Lanka in the ODI series at the R. Premadasa Stadium, starting on August 2.
