'Rohit Sharma Has Given Shivam Dube Same Confidence As MS Dhoni'- Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina hailed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and attributed his captaincy skills to backup allrounder Shivam Dube's magnificent showings in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. 

The former India batter said Rohit has given Dube the same level of confidence and assurity as the earnest cricketer's legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has over the years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

Speaking to JioCinema after Dube's two excellent all-round displays in Mohali and Indore, Raina said Rohit would be keen for the fellow Mumbaikar to continue performing in this vein as he looks to firm up the backup allrounder's option ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.  


Raina Hails Skipper Rohit After Dube's Rise 

With no certainty on when premier allrounder Hardik Pandya will return from his persistent struggles with a knee injury, India has smartly given Dube confidence and role clarity in the playing XI. The player has not disappointed the management either, scoring 60* and 63* at No.4 while delivering spells of 1/9 and 1/36. 

"Absolutely, if Hardik Pandya is fit, Shivam Dube can also bat. Rohit Sharma is using him well. The IPL form will be very important. As a captain or selector, I will take in-form players, who will score runs in the two months of the IPL, which will be played in different cities," Raina said. 

"This is India's team. This is captain Rohit Sharma's team. Rohit Sharma will definitely want in-form players and Dube has impressed a lot - not only now, but even in the entire IPL. He impressed a captain like MS Dhoni, who gave him the confidence, and Rohit Sharma has given him the same confidence," he added. 

Dube has the chance to further bolster his stocks in India's selection plans via the third and final T20I scheduled on Wednesday (January 17) in Bangalore before the focus shifts to IPL 2024, where he remains integral in CSK's plans.
