Brief Scores: Afghanistan: 172 all out (20 overs) [Gulbadin Naib: 57 (35), Najibullah Zadran: 23 (21); Arshdeep Singh 3/32 (4), Axar Patel 2/17 (4)] lost to India: 173-4 (15.4 overs) [Yashasvi Jaiswal: 68 (34), Shivam Dube: 63* (32); Karim Janat 2/13 (2), Fazalhaq Farooqi 1/28 (3.4)] by six wickets.

Team India outclassed Afghanistan in all aspects of their round two at Indore’s Holkar Stadium to go 2-0 up in their three-match T20I series.

Arshdeep Singh keeps AFG down after Gulbadin blitz

After losing both openers cheaply, Afghanistan number three Gulbadin Naib led his side’s run-scoring charge with a barrage of boundaries and sixes, especially against Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar within the first 10 overs of the innings.

Blazing his way to a sizzling 35-ball 57, Naib eventually had his innings curtailed by Axar Patel at 91-4. Following his dismissal, Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat and Mujeeb Ur Rahman all slapped crucial 20s in the backend as Afghanistan surged to 172 by the end of their 20 overs.

India’s new-ball speedster Arshdeep Singh struck thrice in the death overs to finish with 3-32; while spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel claimed two wickets each from their ends.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube 60s take India home

Indian opener Rohit Sharma was cleaned up by Fazalhaq Farooqi to register his second duck in succession this series. His partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, shared match-defining partnerships with Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube to tonk a whirlwind 34-ball 68.

Karim Janat led Afghanistan’s middle-overs fightback by removing Jaiswal and Jitesh Sharma in quick succession, but his twin strikes proved too little and too late for the visitors as hosts India completed their run-chase task with more than four overs to spare.

Shivam Dube, who had claimed a wicket with the ball, pumped out 63 unbeaten runs from just 32 balls to take India 2-0 up in the three-match series.
