The cricket world eagerly anticipates the upcoming 5-test series between India and England in Hyderabad starting January 25. Let’s go down memory lane to 2012, was the last time England clinched a Test series victory on Indian soil.

1st Test at Ahmedabad

In the 2012 Test series between India & England, the action kicked off on November 15th in Ahmedabad. The captains were Alastair Cook for England and MS Dhoni for India. The host secured a commanding 1-0 lead with three matches to go. 

The hosts clinched victory on the final day at Motera, dismissing England and requiring just 77 runs for a win, which they achieved in under 16 overs with a nine-wicket triumph. Cheteshwar Pujara's stellar 206* in the first innings, Virender Sehwag's century, and Pragyan Ojha's 9-wicket haul (5 in the first innings & 4 in the second innings) earned India a memorable victory, with Pujara rightfully awarded the Player of the Match.

2nd Test at Mumbai

In the second test at Wankhede, Mumbai, on November 23, England leveled the series 1-1 with a convincing ten-wicket victory on the fourth morning. Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann's exceptional bowling, claiming a combined 19 wickets, proved decisive in favorable conditions. 

The match's turning point was Kevin Pietersen's attacking century, earning him the Player of the Match award. Alastair Cook's 122, and Pietersen's 186 contributed to England's dominant performance, marking a memorable win for the visitors, while Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara also scored a century.



3rd Test at Kolkata

In a gripping encounter at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on December 5, England clinched a crucial victory in the third Test, securing a 2-1 series lead.

 Despite a shaky start, England's top order, led by Alastair Cook's magnificent 190 marking his 23rd Test hundred, displayed resilience. Ian Bell and Nick Compton steadied the innings, showcasing sensible batting. Cook's stellar performance earned him the Player of the Match award, setting the stage for the final Test in Nagpur. 

The win marked the first time since 1999-2000 that India suffered consecutive home Test defeats.

4th Test at Nagpur

In the decisive fourth Test at Nagpur on December 13, England secured a historic series win in India after 28 years by drawing the match. Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell's remarkable 208-run partnership features centuries from both. 

Alastair Cook's captaincy and his stellar batting earned him the Player of the Series award, amassing 562 runs. James Anderson's crucial 4-wicket haul in the match secured him the Player of the Match title. With this, England clinched the series 2-1, marking a remarkable turnaround from a crushing defeat in Ahmedabad and overcoming challenges to achieve a memorable victory in India.
