In the lead-up to the IPL 2024 mini-auction, anticipation is building as teams strategize to bolster their squads. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to revamp their bowling attack, with a keen focus on overseas pacers. Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg suggests that MI, following the release of Jofra Archer, will be on the lookout for quality pacers to complement the returning Jasprit Bumrah.

Highlighting MI's need for a fast bowler, Hogg believes South African pacers Gerald Coetzee and Chris Morris could be on MI's radar.

"They need a fast bowler, they have been boosted with an Indian all-rounder in Hardik Pandya. They still need someone to complement Bumrah and Behrendorff. I think they will go for Coetzee upfront, they will be hoping to get him cheaply. If not Coetzee, then they will go for Lance Morris. If MI get both Coetzee and Morris, they will be challenging GT because they will have a very balanced lineup,"  Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

The acquisition of both Coetzee and Morris, according to Hogg, would make MI a formidable contender with a well-balanced lineup.

As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the auction, Hogg also shared insights into the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) strategy. He suggests that KKR, under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir and led by Shreyas Iyer, is likely to target the experienced Pat Cummins. Hogg predicts KKR's interest in Tyagi for added pace in the Indian department and Harshal Patel.

"They have got rid of a lot of players and they need to pick up a lot as well in the auction. I think they are going to go after Pat Cummins. I think they will go after Tyagi as well, just for a little bit of extra pace in the Indian department, and also, Harshal Patel."

With key players up for grabs, the IPL 2024 auction promises to be a riveting affair, setting the stage for intense bidding wars and strategic team-building.
