On Monday, June 30, India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate addressed the press and clarified the situation regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the second Test, set to begin on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Earlier reports had suggested that Bumrah was all but ruled out of the second Test, and images from training sessions also hinted at his possible unavailability. However, Ryan ten Doeschate—who was also celebrating his 45th birthday—denied these rumours and stated that the right-arm seamer is available for selection.

Doeschate Ignites Hope With His Remarks

The 45-year-old added that the team has yet to make a final decision on the 31-year-old’s participation in the second Test, but confirmed that if Bumrah is rested, it will only be due to workload management and not for any other reason.

“He’s available for the game, obviously. We know from the start he’s only going to play three out of the five. He’s obviously had eight days to recover from the last Test. But given conditions, workload, and how we think we can best manage for the next four games, we haven’t made a call on that. We’re going to see what the other guys are with their workload as well. So technically, yes, he’s available,” said ten Doeschate speaking to the press.

Akash Deep Touted to Replace Bumrah

Despite ten Doeschate’s press conference, speculation continues that Bumrah will miss the second Test. Meanwhile, a report from Rohit Juglan of RevSportz mentioned that Akash Deep is set to partner with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in the upcoming match.

Bumrah was spotted having an intense conversation with India head coach Gautam Gambhir during training, but he also marked his run-up, keeping the suspense alive regarding his participation in the next Test.
