Andre Russell smeared 64 unbeaten runs off just 25 deliveries against a quality SRH attack to kick-off his IPL 2024 crusade for KKR in style. The T20 powerhouse also made his presence felt with the ball, as he chipped in with two key wickets to cap a remarkable all-round performance for himself in KKR’s narrow win at the Eden Gardens.

Through the course of his batting bombardment in match number three of the competition, Russell further toppled a host of elite T20 legends, including Chris Gayle and MS Dhoni, for a rare six-hitting IPL milestone.

Andre Russell, who made his IPL debut in 2012 and joined the KKR group in 2014, has so far featured in 113 matches spanning 12 different seasons. Already one of the leading six-hitters in the history of the tournament, Russell listed the 200th maximum of his IPL profile through the course of his six-ladened match-winning knock against SRH on March 23.

The 36-year-old Jamaican launched seven sixes and three boundaries against a quality SRH attack to storm KKR to a monumental 208-run total upfront.

Remarkably, Andre Russell’s six-hitting rampage has now made him only the ninth cricketer in IPL history, and the fastest among all (in terms of deliveries) to scale the 200-six landmark figure.

Russell achieved the feat in just 1,322 deliveries; thus, leaving behind fellow countryman Chris Gayle (1,811 deliveries) by nearly 500 balls. West Indies-based Mumbai Indians zealot Kieron Pollard slipped to third on the elite list, considering the burly all-rounder had scaled his six-hitting threshold from 2,055 deliveries.

RCB ‘Hall of Famer’ AB de Villiers, ex-CSK captain, MS Dhoni and Mumbai Indians legend Rohit Sharma occupy the next three slots among the fastest players to get to 200 IPL maximums.
