Sarfaraz Khan received his long-overdue maiden Test cap on February 15 for India’s all-important match against England at Rajkot. The cricketer broke into the Indian team off the back of a stellar first-class record, averaging nearly 70 in the format despite featuring in 45 matches to date.

While some may argue that Sarfaraz's debut on the international stage arrived belatedly, his father Naushad remains optimistic and thrilled about the significant occasion.

Sarfaraz Khan finally earned his Test debut through India’s Rajkot affair against England on February 15. The 26-year-old was handed his maiden Test cap from legendary Indian cricketer Anil Kumble.

A significant occasion for Sarfaraz’s family, his father Naushad was later asked by cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra if he believes his son’s debut came a little too late.

Unfazed by the belated debut, Naushad poetically responded: “Raat ko waqt chahiye guzarne ke liye, Sooraj meri marzi se nahi nikalne waala.” (Night takes time to pass on, sun cannot come out by my will).

Sarfaraz Khan was included in the Indian playing XI for the third Test in the absence of seasoned middle-order batters KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.

After captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first, India lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and number three Shubman Gill both at the hands of Mark Wood within the opening hour of the morning session on Day 1. Rajat Patidar also failed to make much impact with the bat as his dismissal to Tom Hartley worsened India’s troubles at 33-3.

Captain Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja subsequently led India’s recovery with a belligerent partnership to take their side past the 100-run mark without further casualty.
