'Put Him Ahead Of Siraj' Ex-Indian Captain Wants Arshdeep To Be In India's XI In T20 World Cup 2024

Team India have had a stellar start in the T20 World Cup 2024, securing three consecutive victories and comfortably advancing to the Super Eight. As India heads to the West Indies for the remainder of the tournament, former spin wizard Anil Kumble has weighed in on the team's bowling strategy, suggesting a key change.

Kumble believes that if India opts to play only two pacers, Mohammed Siraj should make way for the left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh. Siraj's recent form has been underwhelming, with only one wicket in three outings, failing to make crucial breakthroughs.

Conversely, Arshdeep Singh has been exceptional. In India's seven-wicket win over the USA, Arshdeep took four wickets for just nine runs.

His overall performance in the World Cup has been impressive, with seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.225 and a strike rate of 10.28.

Jasprit Bumrah remains India's leading first choice, and Kumble is confident that Arshdeep should join him, along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya. This combination would allow India to include an extra spinner on the slow Caribbean pitches, providing a strategic edge.

"I think the way he (Arshdeep) bowled that last over against Pakistan, and also the way he can bowl in different areas in the T20 game, I think certainly puts him ahead of Mohammed Siraj," Kumble said. "If India takes the option of going with just the two seamers and Hardik Pandya. Plus, he gives you an extra variety with his left-arm pace. So overall, he must be happy."

India will face Canada in their final Group A fixture at Lauderhill and then play Australia on June 24 in the Super Eight.
