The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) confirmed this month that the Indian team will be participating in this year’s 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. The confirmation incited fierce backlash from a legion of Indian cricket fans in the country, with several of them accusing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of aiding with the nation’s geo-political rivals Pakistan diplomatically and financially.
Earlier this year, several reports indicated that Team India will be boycotting Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments, especially in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack as well as its resultant cross-border artillery exchanges.
Manoj Tiwary “Against” The Idea Of IND Vs PAK
Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary has lambasted the BCCI for agreeing to India’s participation in the 2025 Asia Cup alongside Pakistan. While speaking with the ANI, the cricketer-turned-politician said that India should not face Pakistan anymore, especially after the deadly terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam earlier this year.
Tiwary also recalled the fact that India’s counter-response operation titled ‘Operation Sindoor’ is still in effect with Pakistan. Urging the authorities to consider the decision, he said:
“I am against it. The India-Pakistan match should not be held. Especially after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in which civilians have been killed. After that, Operation Sindoor has taken place. The situation was so bad, how can we think of an India-Pakistan match? I feel that it should be considered again and the India-Pakistan match should not happen in such an environment. Our Prime Minister is saying that Operation Sindoor is still going on. How can we play a match with Pakistan?”
India Fear Playing Pakistan Thrice In Asia Cup 2025
As per the 2025 Asia Cup schedule, Team India could potentially face Pakistan thrice in the tournament.
The Indian team, placed in Group A, will face hosts UAE on September 10 before going up against Pakistan and Oman on September 14 and September 19 respectively.
