The Asia Cup 2025 saga has taken a dramatic turn as the BCCI faces a huge backlash from the fans for agreeing to play Pakistan in the upcoming continental tournament.
Notably, the 17th edition of the Asia Cup will take place from September 9-28. Recently, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released the schedule for the upcoming event, and the council placed India and Pakistan in the same group.
Notably, the two neighbouring countries will lock horns against each other on September 14, with a possibility of the two teams squaring off three times in the tournament.
Recent Tensions Behind Online Backlash For Indo-Pak Match
Ever since the schedule was made public, the fans urged the Sports Ministry to intervene and pull out of the upcoming fixture because of the recent Pahalgam attack.
Notably, in April 2025, terrorists killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam, following which the Indian government decided to ban all sorts of activities with Pakistan, including their artists and songs. Thus, amid the high tensions between the two countries, playing a cricket match against Pakistan is not being deemed right by the fans and has also offended many.
As of now, the match is advancing as planned, but this article will look at what will happen if India refuse to play against Pakistan.
What Will Happen If India Refuse to Play Pakistan In the Asia Cup 2025?
Notably, the match won't be called off as it is being governed by the ACC. Further, India's pulling out of the Pakistan clash will be considered a forfeit. In case of a forfeit, the Men in Green will get full points, and it will be treated as a win for the Mohammad Rizwan-led side.
If India decide to pull out of the Pakistan match, they won't get any points and will face Oman and UAE for the rest of the games in their group.
