Former India pacer and Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach Jhulan Goswami slammed a reporter for asking Harmanpreet Kaur some improper questions in the pre-WPL 2026 press conference.

The moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising Jhulan for standing up for her captain, Kaur.

Jhulan Goswami involved in heated exchange with reporter

The incident happened when a reporter asked Harmanpreet Kaur about her run-out in the 2023 Women’s World Cup final against England. The question suggested that Harmanpreet’s dismissal had cost India the match.

Jhulan Goswami immediately stepped in and corrected the reporter, saying that Harmanpreet was not run out in that final.

"Final pe woh run-out nahin hui thi. Pehle aapka history proper karke aaiye. Phir yeh sawaal kijiye. Sorry to say that. I'm so sorry, it was not she. Some other players and some other time. So, please pehle apna preparation karke aaiye," Goswami said.

In reality, it was former India captain Mithali Raj who was run out for 82 in the 2017 final. Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed for 51, caught in the deep.

India lost that final by nine runs, but Harmanpreet’s fighting knock remains one of her most memorable innings.

It is also possible that the reporter got confused with Harmanpreet’s run-out in the semi-final against Australia in the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Either way, Jhulan Goswami made sure the facts were set straight in front of everyone.

Harmanpreet Kaur set to lead MI-W

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur has had a dream run in recent times. She led India to a historic Women’s World Cup title in 2025, ending years of heartbreak for Indian fans.

Under her captaincy, the Mumbai Indians have also been very successful in the WPL. MI won the title in 2023 and 2025, and reached the playoffs in 2024.

Jhulan and Harmanpreet share a strong bond. Jhulan has been part of the Mumbai Indians setup since the first season, and the duo have built a winning culture in the team.

Mumbai Indians Women are the defending champions and will begin their WPL 2026 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on January 9.
