The Pakistan Super League is set to undergo a massive change from the 2026 season onwards, as the Pakistan Cricket Board is going to extend the competition to an eight-team affair, seven years after the last team was added to make it a six-team tournament.

Since the announcement of league expansion, the build-up to the new team auction has been long and exhilarating for the fans, with six cities shortlisted to have their teams from the forthcoming season. For finalizing the new PSL team owners and cities, several bidders from different fields, including real estate, software companies, tech giants, etc. have shown interest and will go in a bid-war in the auction.

When and where is the PSL new teams auction?

The auction to finalize two new PSL teams will take place on Thursday, January 8, at 4:15 pm (local time) at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.

Where to watch the PSL new teams auction?

PCB will livestream the auction on its official YouTube channel, alongside Tapmad, Tamasha, Myco and PCB Live (UK). As per the official press release, famous singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is also set to grace the event with his live performance at the end of the bidding process.

Which cities have been shortlisted for new PSL teams?

The following are the six cities that have a chance of having a new PSL team from 2026 onwards:

Faisalabad, Gilgit, Hyderabad (Pakistan), Muzaffarabad, Rawalpindi and Sialkot.

Who are the bidders for PSL new teams?

According to the same release, a total of 12 bidders showed interest to buy a new team in the league, out of which 10 were shortlisted through a technical process. Below is the full list of bidders:

1. Aim Next inc - Mr. Umar Mushtaq and Mr. Ali Mushtaq

2. Deharki Sugar Mills - Mr. Makhdoom Syed Ali Mahmud

3. FKS - Mr. Fawad Sarwar

4. Inverex – Mr. Muhammad Zakir Ali

5. i2c - Mr. Amir Wain

6. Jazz - Mr. Amir Ibrahim

7. OZ Developers - Mr. Hamza Majeed

8. Prism Developers – CEO Mr. Masood Alvi

9. VGO TEL - Mr. Naveed Gaba

10. Walee Technologies - Mr. Ahsan Tahir

The auction is set to be a landmark event in the history of PSL as the competition moves into its second decade after a successful phase of 10 years, which saw Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United win the title three times each, while Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings won a solitary trophy each.

As per the PCB chief, the league will reach unprecedented heights in the coming time and also become the number 1 T20 competition in the world, despite clashing with IPL in the same window. It remains to be seen how smoothly the operations go on Thursday and the subsequent player auction ahead of the season.
