On Friday, August 1, Pakistan locked horns against the West Indies in the first of a three-match T20I series. The visitors registered a 14-run win, and the recently concluded match also marked Shaheen Afridi's return to the T20I set-up.

Afridi had a decent return and took a solitary wicket after giving away 27 runs in his quota of four overs. While the southpaw shone on the field, he also hogged the internet for off-field activities, as there were rumours that all is not well between Afridi and current T20I captain Salman Ali Agha.

Afridi-Agha Rift Rumours Take Over Internet

Notably, the Pakistan cricket team has undergone several changes in the last few years, including leadership changes. Shaheen Afridi also took command of the team following Babar Azam's resignation.

However, the PCB sacked Afridi after a short stint and eventually, the southpaw was left out of the T20I set-up for a long time. While the reports failed to mention the reason behind the rift between two senior players, the matter spread like fire on the internet, prompting the PCB had to step in and clarify.

PCB Clarifies With A Statement

The Mohsin Naqvi-led board clarified that there is no issue between Shaheen and Agha.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board categorically denies the baseless, fabricated, and defamatory allegations currently being circulated on social media pertaining to an alleged incident involving Shaheen Afridi, team captain Salman Ali Agha, and a member of the coaching staff," read the statement as quoted by Hindustan Times.

"The PCB affirms that no such incident has occurred at any point during training or practice sessions. These malicious rumours are entirely fictitious and appear to have been deliberately concocted with clear malafide intent to sow discord within the national squad. Any persons found complicit in propagating these claims will be held fully accountable under applicable laws,” it added.

The Men in Green will now lock horns against West Indies for the 2nd Test on August 3.
