The first day of the Oval Test witnessed frequent rain interruptions, with inclement weather playing spoilsport in the deciding contest between India and England. The English fast bowlers dominated majority of day 1, reducing India to 204 for six before stumps.
While Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul disappointed the visitors, Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan failed to convert their starts into significant scores. However, Karun Nair played a magnificent knock, ensuring India breached the 200-run mark in their first innings on a challenging surface.
But the veteran batter was the first man to be dismissed on day 2, as Josh Tongue trapped him plumb in front of the stumps for 57 runs. His departure opened the floodgates for India, with the visitors getting bundled out for 224 runs in their first innings.
