In the ongoing Boxing Day Test between India and Australia, Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s struggles with the bat continued. Despite promoting himself to the opening position after an underwhelming performance in the middle order, Rohit failed yet again, scoring just 3 runs off 5 balls.

Australia’s first innings ended with a formidable total of 474, and India’s reply began with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers. However, the start was far from ideal for India, as Rohit was dismissed in the second over by Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

On the last ball of the over, Cummins bowled a short delivery outside the off stump. The ball moved away and bounced more than expected, causing Rohit to mistime a pull shot. The resulting top edge was comfortably caught by Scott Boland at mid-on, leaving India in trouble early in their innings.

Rohit’s form in the series has been a major concern. Initially batting in the middle order, he struggled to score runs consistently. Hoping for a turnaround, he chose to open the innings in this Test. Unfortunately, the move didn’t work, and his string of low scores persisted.

Smith And Cummins Help Australia Post Daunting Total

Australia built a commanding total of 474, thanks to key contributions from their batting lineup. Steve Smith led the charge with a brilliant 34th Test century, which was also his 11th against India. Sam Konstas provided an aggresive start, slamming 18 runs in a single over from Jasprit Bumrah and scoring a quickfire 60. Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne stabilized the innings with half-centuries, further frustrating the Indian bowlers.

Adding to India’s woes, Pat Cummins added 49 runs, while the last-wicket pair of Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland added 19 runs to the total.
