In a recent podcast with Smita Prakash , former cricketer and BJP Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir, expressed strong disapproval of the use of derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gambhir condemned the term 'panauti' (jinx) being associated with the Prime Minister, asserting that such language is highly inappropriate, especially when directed towards the leader of the nation.

Drawing parallels, Gambhir reflected on the 2011 Cricket World Cup semifinal where if India had lost, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh would have visited the team. He emphasised that, in such a scenario, the team would not have disrespected him, highlighting a sense of decorum that should be maintained irrespective of political affiliations.

Gambhir's remarks came in the context of PM Modi visiting the Indian cricket team after their defeat in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The cricketer-turned-politician suggested that regardless of the outcome, it would have been more beneficial for people if they had shown respect to the Prime Minister during his visit. Gambhir's stance underscores the importance of maintaining a dignified approach towards national leaders, irrespective of differing opinions or political viewpoints.
