'One Of The Best All-Format Players'- Ricky Ponting Hails Travis Head For WC Final Heroics

Travis Head has been one of the most underrated players for Australia for quite a while now. The Australian selectors backed him to succeed in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 despite suffering an injury before the start. He lived up to the expectations and slammed a match-winning hundred against India in the final last evening.

The opener struck a calculative 137 from 120 balls, denying India any chance at lifting the trophy after they clinched three quick Australian wickets, who were chasing 241 at Ahmedabad. The southpaw also starred in a semi-final win over South Africa, scoring a gritty 62 and clinching two important wickets in Kolkata.

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has heaped praise on Head for being one of the best all-formats players in the world. Speaking to Sky Sports, Ponting highlighted Head's ability to see off the new ball and score big runs when the team demands.

Here's what Ponting said

"Travis is emerging as one of the three or four best all-format players in the world. His Test record is outstanding. He is unorthodox at times [in one-day cricket] and you wonder how he will get past the new ball, but he does and scores big runs."

Head also starred for Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final earlier this year against India, slamming a match-changing 163 off 174.
