'Can’t Speak More Highly Of Him'- Dravid Hails Rohit Sharma Despite WC Final Defeat

Having led India in 10 consecutive wins, captain Rohit Sharma failed to handle the pressures of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 last evening and ended up losing the title to Australia at Ahmedabad.

Until Rohit batted, India looked in command; however, with the fall of the skipper's wicket, Australia did not give an inch away to their opponents and played a near-perfect game, beating hot favourites by six wickets and lifting their sixth World Cup title.

In the post-match conference, head coach Rahul Dravid lauded Rohit's contributions on and off the field. As quoted by India Today, Dravid explained how the 36-year-old invested his energy and time in players and planning the marquee event.

“I just think he's given so much of his time and energy in addressing the boys. He’s always been available for any of our conversations for any of our meetings. Sometimes a lot of planning, a lot of strategy goes in, and he’s always committed to those things. He's given a lot of his time and energy into this campaign," Dravid said.

The former India captain also went to laud Rohit's exploit with the bat, which paved the way for incoming batters to play their natural game.

“His batting as well has been fantastic. He really set the tone for us. He wanted to play a certain way, he wanted to play in a positive, attacking brand of cricket and has been very committed to that. He wanted to lead by example and he did. I can’t speak more highly of him," he added.

In 11 World Cup matches, the stylish Mumbaikar slammed 597 runs with one hundred and three fifties, ending as the tournament's second-highest run-getter.
