'Oh No Pat...': Allan Border Opens Up About Cummins' Decision To Bowl in WC Final

Australian skipper Pat Cummins pulled a rabbit out of the hat, opting to field against India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final on Sunday, which eventually turned out to be a masterstroke, as the five-time champions ended up winning their sixth title as well.

Australian bowlers responded to Cummins' needs and bundled out India for 240 on a dry surface, which acted unlike how many people assumed it would.

Amongst the many who thought Cummins blew up Australia's shot at the title was former captain Allan Border. Speaking to Fox Sports, the 1987 World Cup-winning skipper stated how he thought Cummins 'lost the plot' which seemed to come true until Rohit Sharma's batting.

Here's what Border said

"Pat Cummins’ “bowl first’’ call in the World Cup final was one of the bravest decisions I have seen from a cricket captain. I must be honest, when I heard Pat say “we will bowl’’ I thought “oh no, Patrick, you have lost the plot, you blokes. When Rohit Sharma was going hard early, I thought “what are we doing?’ Those first half a dozen to 10 overs I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, The decision to bowl first has just backfired,"

However, with dew coming into play in the second-half of the game, Australia led by Travis Head chased down 241 runs with relative ease as the track got better to bat on.

Border further lauded Cummins explaining how the pacer has grown into a leader, and made this side his own.
