Australia have concluded their World Cup campaign on a high by triumphing over the hosts in an unbelievable fashion.

The Pat Cummins-led Australian side remarkably put an end to India’s unbeaten run in the World Cup leaving over a billion Indians heartbroken. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put on a stellar show with the bat putting on an enormous 192-run stand to quash any hopes of a potential Indian victory in the World Cup finale amidst a fully-packed Narendra Modi Stadium.

Earlier in the day, their bowlers most notably Mitchell Starc played a vital part in restricting India to a sub-par score of 240. Starc in particular was the pick of the bowlers for Australia finishing with figures 3-55 comprising prize wickets of Gill and Rahul. His timely breakthroughs helped Australia tip the scales in their favor and set the tone for their sixth World Cup title win.

Starc's touching tribute to his friend

During the post-match presentation, Starc was observed wearing a black armband that contained the initials PH for the late Phil Hughes. Hughes was a former Australian cricketer who died under tragical circumstances in November 2014. Nine years on, Starc took it upon himself to pay a heart-warming tribute to the late left-handed batter from New South Wales.

Hughes suffered a nasty bouncer around his neck region whilst facing Sean Abbott and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. Starc and many other members from the current Australian squad shared a very close bond with Hughes.

Back then, the entire cricketing fraternity mourned his demise including Sean Abbott who was behind bowling that vicious bouncer. Nevertheless, Cricket Australia ensured that Abbott’s career did not end on a regrettable note and took immense care of him to eventually integrate him into the same squad.
