Suryakumar Yadav recently revealed an interesting information about India’s new ODI skipper Shubman Gill. The T20I captain spoke about a latest superstition that is followed by Gill religiously.

Suryakumar reveals captain Gill’s superstition

Suryakumar last led India in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025 that India won by beating Pakistan in a thrilling final. In an interview with News24, Suryakumar revealed that Gill has started following a latest ritual before going to bat.

“Let me tell you the latest superstition of Shubman Gill. Someone actually asked me about this during the Asia Cup as well. I had noticed it back in 2022, I still remember; maybe it started in 2022 or 2023. He’s the only player who wears pads of a completely different colour. If you’ve noticed, he wears very light blue pads, and since the time he started wearing them, he’s been scoring runs continuously. Those pads haven’t changed till today,” Suryakumar said.

After observing the same for over two years, Suryakumar pointed out the same. As told by Suryakumar during the interview, he told Gill that it is the latest superstition followed by the Test and ODI captain of Indian cricket team.

He further added, “Even in the Asia Cup, he wore the same colour pads. I noticed that many times and even mentioned it, because our jersey’s pant colour code is different, but his pads’ colour code is totally different. So I’ve told him many times, brother, I think this is your superstition.”

Suryakumar speaks about his future plan

In the same interview with News24, Suryakumar also shared that he wants to focus on white-ball cricket for next few years. He also disclosed that he wants to keep himself fit for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 and T20 World Cup later that year.

“Right now, how it feels is that I am almost 34 or 35. I feel that if I focus properly on white-ball cricket for the next three to four years, it will be better for me and for the team. I will be able to contribute much more effectively there. If you want the truth, maybe the 2028 Olympics and the T20 World Cup are in my mind. I will carefully see how things go. This year and next year, I also need to keep my body fit. You know, when you reach 37 or 38," Suryakumar Yadav said.

Suryakumar Yadav will next play the five-match T20I series against India starting from October 29 in Canberra.
