Former England bowler Stuart Broad believes that Australia have their “worst” team since 2010. His response came after David Warner predicted a 4-0 win for Australia over the arch-rivals, England in the Ashes 2025-26.
Broad calls Australia favourites for Ashes at home
Ahead of the Ashes 2025, former Australia batter David Warner and former England bowler Stuard Broad got involved in a heated exchange as they both predicted the future of the series. Warner predicted that England would win the series down under 4-0. England’s performance in Australia has been terrible since 2010-11 when England retained the urn 3-1 and Broad was a part of the side.
Since then, England have suffered 5-0, 4-0, and 4-0 in their next tours to Australia. However, despite England’s poor record down under, Broad refused to agree with Warner. He called Australia the “massive favourites” especially at home but raised a few questions. Broad opined.
"It's very, very difficult to win in Australia as an England side, or any side - it just is. Australia have to be massive favourites. The question really was 'Which team's under the most pressure?' Well, Australia are under the most pressure because they're expected to win. They're brilliant at home.”
“The worst Australian team since 2010”
Speaking to the BBC Sounds podcast ‘For the Love of Cricket’, Broad reminded about Australia’s “question marks over their team and captain. Stuart Broad retired after the Ashes series in England in 2023 that saw Australia retaining the urn with a 2-2 draw. Former England pacer opined that Australia are facing a similar kind of situation they were in 2010.
"Australia have been so consistent for a long period of time that you just knew who was going to open the batting, who was going to bat where, what bowlers there were - and they don't have that. It's very much a similar situation to 2010-2011 when England went and won there.”
While Broad believes that Australia have their worst side since 2010, England have their best. No wonder this would be a “brilliant Ashes series” according to former England pacer.
"You wouldn't be outlandish in thinking - it's actually not an opinion, it's a fact - it's probably the worst Australian team since 2010 when England last won, and it's the best English team since 2010. So those things match up to the fact it's going to be a brilliant Ashes series."
