Suryakumar Yadav has credited veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma for his evolution as a captain. Regarded as India's Mr 360, Suryakumar Yadav was recently appointed as India's new T20I skipper following Rohit's retirement from the shortest format.

Under Gautam Gambhir's coaching, India will begin their transition phase with the Sri Lanka T20Is starting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, ahead of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, Surya hailed Rohit for helping him fine-tune his captaincy skills.

In the pre-match press conference, the swashbuckling batter revealed that he has learnt a lot from Rohit and would try to follow his footsteps in the Sri Lanka T20Is.

"From 2014-15 to now, it is almost 10 years. I'm a completely changed man now. I have learnt a lot of things about the captaincy, especially from Rohit Sharma," Suryakumar said.

"Rohit Sharma was a leader. I have learnt the art of leadership from him. The template will be the same," he added.

Suryakumar is India's most important T20I batter, having amassed 2340 runs in 65 matches. Considering his ability to accelerate, the right-hander is expected to play a key role for India alongside his deputy , Shubman Gill, in the Sri Lanka series.
