It turned out to be a heated affair at Lord's, London, last week, where England defeated India in a thriller by 22 runs. Although the match saw some intense cricketing moments, this game will always be remembered for the heated exchanges on the field.
Shubman Gill Reveals England's Major Strategy
On the third day of the third Test of the third session, the Indians were bowled out for 387, exactly the score that England put up on the board. However, with a few minutes left in the day's play to end, the home side opted to use delaying tactics, which are quite often used in Test cricket.
Lord's witnessed one of the most controversial moments when Indian skipper Shubman Gill vented his frustration on the English openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, for potentially wasting time. Gill, who has been under scrutiny over the past few days for his outburst, has now revealed some interesting details from this confrontation.
Speaking during the press conference, Gill revealed that England did not waste 10 or 20 seconds, but in fact 90 seconds (one and a half minutes) during the game, so that India would not bowl another over, which is where they succeeded.
"Let me clear the air. England were 90 seconds late to bat. Not 10, 20 but 90. We didn’t react like this but there was a build up to that. I feel what happened was not in spirit of the game," Gill was quoted as saying by TOI journalist Sahil Malhotra on X.
According to the Indian skipper, this action was the reason for his outburst because they did not play in the spirit of the game. It is worth mentioning that only eight minutes were left when India came out to bowl, and England tried everything they could.
Shubman, who had a major confrontation with Crawley, had the batter fire back at him with a few words, as both were involved in heated moments during the one-over of play that was possible at the end of the day, which England successfully survived.
Gill Getting Backed For His Aggressive Intent
Despite getting all the unwanted attention for being too aggressive, Shubman Gill has received some support too from former Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, who believes that he was right to do as he pleased because this is his team and he should be left to decide what needs to be done.
With all the drama unfolding over the past few days, India will now look to avenge their defeat in the third Test, which they lost by 22 runs, when they face each other again in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting from July 23rd.
