As the IPL is going on, some of the high-spirited moments are taking place on the cricket field. Apart from some brilliant knocks, some of the fiery celebrations are also catching the eye. But sometimes, those celebrations lead the bowlers into trouble.

Lucknow Super Giants' bowler Digvesh Rathi found himself in hot water after his celebrations led to BCCI penalties. But former New Zealand star Simon Doull gave a different opinion on that.

Simon Doull Disagrees With The Penalties

The ongoing IPL 2025 is unlocking some thrilling cricket moments on the field. But the Lucknow Super Giants bowler Digvesh Rathi’s penalties took a different turn. After his aggressive celebrations, the BCCI penalized the spinner by handling him deducting match fees and some demerit points.

As that has become the talk of the town, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull shared his different opinion on that. He questioned why senior Indian players face no fines for similar celebrations, sparking debate on the fairness of the penalties.

“The team have got to be paying that (the fines). I don’t like it. I love the celebrations, I don’t think he has done anything at all wrong. I’ve seen senior Indian players do way worse, be in your face, and not get a fine. They are making an example out of a young man who is what, making a note in his notebook?” Doull said.

Rathi’s Hefty Fine Over The Celebration Drama

In the ongoing IPL 2025, Digvesh Rathi’s ‘notebook celebration’ took the center stage as it has sparked a lot of buzz. While playing against Punjab Kings, he grabbed the attention with the fierce celebration after dismissing Priyansh Arya. After that, he handed over one demerit point and fined 25% of his match fees.

In the second offence, he repeated the similar thing after dismissing Naman Dhir while playing against the Mumbai Indians. That incident put him onto deeper trouble as he was fined 50% of his match fees and two more demerit point. Learning from the penalties, his celebration against KKR was noticeably restrained, proving he had the consequences in mind.
