Delhi Capitals suffered its fourth loss of the season against Mumbai Indians whilst chasing the mountainous target of 235 runs. While DC got close towards the end, the lack of firepower in powerplay is what cost them the win, as revealed by captain Rishabh Pant.

Mumbai Indians finally tasted victory this IPL 2024 season by outclassing Delhi Capitals at Wankhede earlier today. Batting first, MI put a mammoth 234 runs on board courtesy of the opening pair's quick start and Romario Shepherd-Tim David's extraordinary finish.

DC kicked off the chase relatively slower but picked up pace towards the end courtesy of Tristan Stubbs 25 ball 71 runs innings. However, Stubbs was left stranded without support as the visitors fell short of 29 runs.

Pant unhappy with batters

Meanwhile, DC captain Rishabh Pant was absolutely gutted and blamed the batting lineup for not optimising the field restriction advantage. He believed DC stood a chance at pulling off an enthralling victory, but perhaps the batters joined the party too late. Pant added how the chase gets difficult once the required rate surpasses 10-15 runs per over.

"Definitely we were in contention but I feel we didn't have enough runs during the powerplay. We tried to chase it afterwards but when the pressure mounts and required rate goes over 10 or 15 per over, it gets difficult," Pant said.

Pant further accepted that a few things could have gone DC's way. But he isn't looking to blame and intends to learn from these setbacks.

"One over here and there definitely changes the momentum of the game. Either we can blame or look to improve on that," he added.

Death bowling needs improvement

Pant revealed that the wicket was good to bat, but slower balls were sticking to the surface. He wanted his bowlers to use the surface advantage instead of backing their strengths to yield better results.

Regardless, Rishabh Pant admitted misses in death bowling and vowed to fix loose ends by the next game.

"We will look to improve in our powerplay and death bowling as well." he concluded.

Delhi Capitals have slipped to the bottom of the table following the recent loss, and will face LSG next at Ekana Stadium.
