In a recent podcast, West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle shared his views on India's dominance in the cricketing world and the need for a dedicated window for the Indian Premier League (IPL) free from international commitments.

Gayle, who has been a prominent figure in multiple IPL seasons, emphasized the power and influence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Chris Gayle On India's Cricketing Dominance

West Indies Legend Chris Gayle highlights the control India wields in the global cricket landscape.

“No one can speak to India. India runs cricket. You have to face reality; it’s facts. Who is going to talk to India? Who is going to challenge India? No one. They run cricket," Gayle stated.

Currently, the Indian team is competing in the T20 World Cup 2024 and is set to face England in the semifinals. In contrast, the West Indies, co-hosts of the tournament, have been eliminated.

Gayle pointed out the issue of international players having to leave the IPL midway to fulfill national duties, which he believes unfairly benefits India.

“When the IPL is going on, you see players who have to leave the tournament to go play for their countries. If you have an IPL window [then] it should just be the IPL in that window. You shouldn’t have international cricket during that time frame because there’s only one team that’s going to benefit, and that’s India. That’s unfair. You cannot have a system like that,” the Universe Boss added.

Gayle stressed that this system is one-sided and favors Indian cricket and he proposed a solution to this issue by suggesting a distinct timeframe for franchise tournaments like the IPL, free from any scheduling conflicts with international fixtures.
